The immigration bill of the senators would help the US economy and if the undocumented immigrants are legalized, they would earn more, spend more and consume more and this, in turn, would boost the economy of the country. If the immigration reform bill of the “Gang of Eight” is passed and if the undocumented immigrants in the country are granted Registered Provisional Immigrant status and if they are legalized by the end of this year, they would become eligible to work lawfully in the United States. Currently, undocumented immigrants are being paid less as they are being hired illegally but if they are legalized and if they are permitted to work legally, their wages would be increased and their wages are likely to increase by 15 percent, in the next ten years.
Moreover, they would pay more than $109 billion in taxes and their cumulative earnings would increase by $392 billion and the taxes that they pay would be used to fund education and to create more jobs in the country. Likewise, immigrants who earn more would spend more money on food, education, clothing, cars, mobile phones and computers and they would also become home owners and business owners. Their expenses would help the businesses in America to grow and increase the cumulative earnings of Americans and finally boost the country’s economy.
Likewise, more new jobs will be created and reports state that more than 120,000 new jobs will be created if the undocumented immigrants are granted legal status and if they are permitted to work legally in America. These new jobs and money would boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product and the GDP would increase by $830 billion over the next ten years, if the undocumented immigrants become legal residents and US citizens and the economy of the country will be benefited if the undocumented are legalized sooner. Nevertheless, legalization and a pathway to US citizenship would benefit Americans and the US economy.
